Welcome to my Graphic Design Portfolio
I just love designing Web pages! But it wasn't always like that! Let me regress -- I was a business teacher who decided to make a move from a smaller city in Maine to Bangor. In June, I answered an ad in the paper for a part-time teaching position at UMA. When asked if I could teach a class in Web development in the fall. I anwered, "I'd love to." Then I got off the phone, turned to my husband and said, "What in heck is a Web page?" And then I was hooked....
Meet Wilber (the GIMP Mascot)
Learning how to write the script in HTML and format the pages using CSS was the easy part. Now graphics -- that's another story! I'm a big fan of open-source software, so when I heard about GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) and affordable alternative to spending $$$$$ for a proprietary package, I decided to give it a try! You can use GIMP to resize or crop images, save images in Web-friendly formats, or simply design your own static or animated Web graphics from scratch.
There were lots of great GIMP-only tutorial sites available (with step-by-step instructions and video training) to tranform a"newbie" like me into a "power user." Before I knew it, I was creating text effects, badges, icons, buttons, and banners like a "pro."
You're invited to view my Design Gallery of Web 2.0 graphics created entirely in GIMP. I bet you can't wait to start designing your own graphic elements. I can't think of any reason why you should. Simply download GIMP at < http://www.gimp.org > and start GIMPing!
